Here are a few ideas I have
found work well with my kids.
1. Always keep things positive and don’t pester
them if they really don’t want to answer.
2. Ask open ended questions so your kids can not
answer with a yes or no.
Instead of Asking
|
Try asking
|
How was school?
|
What was the best thing about school?
|
Was your teacher nice?
|
What was the most interesting thing your teacher
talked about today?
|
Did you have everything you needed at school?
|
Was there anything you wish you had at school that
you didn’t have today?
|
Did you play with anyone at recess?
|
What were most kids doing at recess?
What was the best game at recess?
|
By asking questions that
don’t focus on your child , it takes the pressure off them and encourages them
to talk. Once the talking starts they will keep it going. It is a little hard
at first and can seemed forced but it works well. It is also great for your
childs development and memory to be able to recall their day.
